Livestock Rearing Programme In Anuradhapura
Aiming to target the people well below the poverty line, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka involves in livelihood support programmes to uplift the lives of many Sri Lankans around the country. After three decades of war, and the destructive Tsunami, many lives were affected with day to day activities.
Livestock Rearing programme is one such programme to develop the small scale dairy farmers in Anuradhapura district. From training projects, workshops with the right authorities and exposure visits, MASL help them to develop the farming skills and to educate them on additional Income Earning Opportunity by utilizing their available resources efficiently.
Two exposure visits were conducted at MILCO Farm and Kubukwewa Model Farm, Kahadagasdigiliya. The objectives of the exposure visits are to acquire brief knowledge of cow rearing under the semi-intensive system, to be familiar with the different methods of milking, preparing feeds for cattle and to gain knowledge in running a farm under sustainable manner.
Moreover, many dairy farmers were given the chance to interact with the right officers to get more recommendation for efficient farming. Additionally, they were educated on the production of value added dairy products like curd, panner and maaza through this programme.
