On the 9th of January 2019, Muslim Aid launched its “Upgrading Education in the Monaragala District, Uva Province” Project under its thematic area, ‘Education for All’.
A formal ceremony was held in Badalkumbura, Monaragala, to lay the foundation stone to construct the extended building for a laboratory at Gallaba Kanitu Vidhuhala. The event was graced by Mr. Faizer Khan, Country Director of Muslim Aid, the Divisional Director of Education – Badalkumbura and the Principal of the School. The vent was conducted in presence of several distinguished guests, students, teachers, SDC members and parents. Prior to the stage function, all guests were welcomed by school management and students.

The project under the thematic area “EDUCATION FOR ALL”, was instigated with the aim of establishing safe and quality education for vulnerable rural children in 13 schools in Monaragala district, through a participatory and responsive community approach. Projects include building renovation for 2 schools; library renovation for 4 schools and science laboratory renovation for 3 schools. Meanwhile 6 schools will receive overhead water towers and water spots. The project will also focus on empowering students, teachers and parents to create and uphold quality education and child-friendly learning environments through career guidance programmes and training sessions.

The second phase of the project will focus on innovative development by introducing the SMART CLASSROOM concept in 15 schools. It will be a technological approach to learning with the reinforcement provided by IT equipment and learning technology such as computers, specialized software, audience response technology, networking, and audio/visual capabilities

The first phase of distributions were held in the rural village of Mutthu Nagar in Trincomalee on the 22nd of December. Here we reached out to families who were not able purchase new school materials for their children and were living under the poverty line.
